The Darling Downs Regional Organisation of Councils Limited is a voluntary alliance of local governments in the Darling Downs region. It provides the region’s interface with all levels of government and business to deliver regional solutions in planning, sustainable economic development, natural resource management and other issues of regional significance.
Since 1991, DDROC (formerly EDROC) has project managed significant regional planning initiatives including the development of the Regional Land Use Strategy, which is central to Local Government integrated planning. In July 2006, DDROC embarked upon the development of a Regional Sustainability Plan for the Darling Downs. The area which comprises DDROC is located just West of the Great Dividing Range, an easy hour and a half drive from Brisbane to the regional centre, Toowoomba. It covers a total area of 31,727 km² and has a total population of 199,000 people.
The region is strategically placed at the junction of a network of highways including: the Gore, Newell, New England and Warrego, providing easy access to Brisbane, Gladstone, Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Queensland Rail maintains an extensive network throughout the region while the majority of towns can accommodate light aircraft.
The member Councils of DDROC are Toowoomba City Council, Dalby Town Council and the shires of Cambooya, Clifton, Crows Nest, Inglewood, Jondaryan, Millmerran, Pittsworth, Rosalie, Stanthorpe, Wambo and Warwick. |
